Congratulations! You’ve just gotten engaged! Now what?

It’s an amazing time for you and your fiancé. The question has been popped, the ring is on the hand. Where do you go from here? We get it. Wedding planning is completely overwhelming. There are so many decisions to be made, and it seems like it all has to get done yesterday. We are here to give you the beginning basics of the things you actually need to be doing now.

  •  Insure your ring.
This really is an important step. That perfect ring on your finger symbolizes such an important time in your life. You want to make sure it’s protected. There are quite a few insurance companies for jewelry only or check your homeowner’s policy. You’ll want to make sure that if something should happen to it, you won’t be left in the lurch.

  • Start thinking about a date.
Do you have a picture in your mind of what season you would like? A month? A year? It also helps for you to be flexible when it comes to dates as many places book out in advance.  Think of it this way: what's more important, finding the perfect venue, or sticking with a certain date?

  • Talk about a budget.
We know – this isn’t the most romantic topic – but being on the same page with whomever is paying for this wedding is important. Whether it’s you and your fiancé, family members or friends, you all need to know where the line begins and where the bottom line is.

  • Ballpark your guest list.
We’re not talking about sitting down and deciding whether or not your Great Aunt’s husband’s sister’s nephew should be invited. We are talking about coming up with an approximate number. Do you want a small, intimate wedding? Or a big, boisterous wedding? Having this decided will also help you with your next step.

  • Research venues.
Now that you know the size of wedding you are looking at as well as your budget, it will be easier to narrow down venues that work for you. Use the internet, word of mouth or magazines to help you narrow down your choices. Then you can call or email and set up a time to visit the place yourself. Being able to see and feel the energy of a place is just as important as cost and size.

  • Start researching vendors.
Ask friends and family who they have used, read reviews online and do your research. Once you’ve nailed down your date and venue, you can reach out to the vendors you are interested in and get the ball rolling.

  • Take a moment to enjoy.
Sit back, take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. You’ve just gotten engaged! There’s a lot to be done, but it can wait a bit. Soak up all the congratulations and enjoy.

Hope this information helps to get you on the right path and enjoy your engagement!
